What would you do in this situation?

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011 at 4:47 am

I lived in SoCal looking for work. Moved to Hawaii to help my brother expand his landscape business. We just added another guy to our crew making it 3 of us. We work Mon-Wed full days from around 8 am to 4 pm. Only pays me 0/month because I gave him that fair amount as he caught up on bills and stuff. I also do the invoicing and all the paperwork that is needed. Also join him in some of the projects that need to be done like fixing valves, pipes, new plants, etc. I live with him and he pays for food and stuff. Don’t pay rent. They want to move to a bigger house and wants to charge me for a room to help pay the bigger rent or mortgage. I can’t afford that because I want to save my money for several months and reinvest it into my own side business (RE Investing). Thats where I stand now, but now rethinking my options as follows:

I can stay and get a raise to 0 and do the same thing, hopefully in the future he switches the business from sole proprietor to a corporation and possibly go 50/50? I wouldn’t mind going 60/40. But at least now I am part owner officially. Also by then running my business that he wants to join as well when he gets bigger and has the money to invest.

Or I can move back to Cali but this time to NorCal with my aunt because my mom told me about a cleaning houses job that pays /hr that she would like to do (Dad won’t allow her to leave). She probably won’t charge me for rent, if so maybe a couple hundred which would be fine be me if I were to get paid /hr. So I thought about getting that type of job more than what my brother pays me now by more than double. I can then save more even faster than now. Start by business investment there. Then maybe by that time if my brother is o.k. with this plan, then I can join him again or if not still partner with him if he wants to invest with me.

Then my uncle said he could get me a landscaping job. My friend was working at a construction site and so forth. All these jobs that are now available to me after I moved away is like man, got me thinking.

My goal is just to be able to pursue my own business to the point that all those small jobs are no longer necessary. Also because I am not paying bills yet so it gives me an opportunity to save up a lot and invest it. Really looking to save up around ,500-K to start investing. So its really not that much capital that you need.

In Hawaii I am stuck on the island of Maui that has no REIA clubs and so forth to help me. I can only do so much here with limited resources. I have lived here for like 4 months now and got to do a lot here. Now its just like what to do next that’ll benefit me for my future family? Is it best I stay here or take another step that’ll hopefully lead to a better position? California has a lot more resources and able to drive around vs flying back and forth which costs more.

So what would you do in my position? Stay and grow a business with a brother and hopefully IS split between both or maybe his wife included? Or go with your aunt and save up to start something of your own without knowing the outcome?

One you save slowly, while the other you save faster. One is more secure, while the other has more risk to it.

Isn't bringing gambling casinos to FL by consent of Lawmakers a great idea to fill the state burdens?

I understand you might create some jobs in construction, and maybe 1000-10000 jobs in staff, but that’s it. Last time I checked, if people pump money into the casinos, the state doesn’t get all that money.

How many more times is Obama going to talk about road construction & clean energy to boost the economy? (#3)?

This is EXACTLY what he said prior to passage of the "stimulus". (We all know how that worked out…)

He then said it AGAIN (in almost identical comments) at the beginning of this year. (Remember how he was going to "focus like a laser beam" on jobs……)

Here’s a question I asked 9 months ago:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApDnxuayd1xfPFLwI.qBGfEjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20091208143852AAUjyu4

Now he’s saying the SAME THING AGAIN

It seems as if the president’s economic team has no clue what to do (which is why they are still pushing the same worn out rhetoric a year and a half after the stimulus). Are you losing confidence in the president?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100830/ap_on_bi_ge/us_obama_economy

Acknowledging that the economy still remains extremely fragile, the president said he’d also have other specific ideas in the days ahead.

He mentioned extending Bush tax cuts due to expire this year for households making under 0,000 a year, upping the nation’s investment in clean energy, rebuilding more roads and highways and tax cuts designed to keep jobs in the United States.

"My economic team is hard at work identifying additional measures that could make a difference in both promoting growth and hiring in the short term and increasing our economy’s competitiveness in the long term," he said.

Does this sound like a real construction company or a scam?

About an hour ago I answered the door at my grandmothers house and was greeted by two men stating they are “in the area doing a couple storm restoration jobs and were wondering if they could look over the outside of my house for storm damage”. I promptly asked when we had a storm…they stated “that the winds a couple weeks ago had done some damage”… (News to me). I asked where their jobs were in town and they said they were “pending with insurance but they had a sign in the yards at these homes”. I later drove around and sure enough I found 2 signs on Main St. I asked if they had contacted the city about soliciting business…and promptly received the response “we have already been to city counsel” I am good friends with the mayor so was able to say “ooh really you have talked to city council?” then the man said “well we dropped off a packet of information with the secretary at city hall”. I asked for business cards and was given one and it looked professional given it had a local address and phone number on it but when the other guy offered me his card it didn’t even have a name on it. Are there scams that start like this or was I just an ass hole to two guys looking for work? The obviously exaggerated what they were telling me and basically lied about their business. Should I contact our Police Dept about this or let it go? I would hate to see anyone get ripped off.
when I say they had a local address it was an address located in a large city about 12 miles south of here.

Why isn't illegal immigration an issue in the News media right now?

Sunday, February 20th, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Since there are over 1,500,000 per year added to our country, where do you suppose they are going to work?
Oh, the construction industry, I thought this was one of the area’s the Stimulus would work on. But aren’t those jobs that Americans don’t want to do?
Where is the Media?

I was a pipefitter in Texas until last week. They replaced me with a mexican immigrant pipefitter. Now what?

Sunday, December 26th, 2010 at 9:54 pm

I have been a pipefitter in the oil and gas construction business for 22 years in Texas. I was making a good salary at about ,000 year.

Last week, they let some of us go on a job we were doing in western Texas.

This week, they hired several mexican nationals to do the jobs we had been doing. They are working for about 25 to 30% less than we were.

No what am I supposed to do? I was born and raised in this country and still have two kids in high school. All of my wages stayed in our economy. I’m pretty sure a lot of the money I used to earn will now leave the country.

I’m going to tell my story to the news. I’ll find another job, but this is not a good sign for Texas. Immigration is killing us.
Both… Been doing this what seems like forever…. Sorry for the confusion/ But, Thanks for the fans!!!

Any good news in Akron, OH?

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Anything good going on there, new construction, jobs, people actually moving back into the city, downtown revitilization, gentrification, anything?
these are good answers, but can we actually hear from someone from Summit County, lol. I’m not extending this question, we know you’re out there on the other Ohio forums, lol.

A bill that aims to stop teacher & police layoffs was passed. What makes those jobs more important than others?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 at 9:49 pm

Why wasn’t a bill passed by the Senate that would stop layoffs of other jobs? It provides funding to local governments specifically for the purpose of preventing police and teacher layoffs. Does being a factory worker or a garbageman or a construction worker make you less important than being a teacher or a police officer? Think about this once.

What ever happened to welfare reform?

Friday, November 19th, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Years ago here in Wisconsin then Gov. Tommy Thompson started the new W2 propgram. Designed to help people get off of welware in this country. I just don’t what happened to it. I know other states have aboptied similar programs. We are told that there are no jobs and the ones out there don’t pay enough to get people off of welfare. Yet just yesterday I watched a news program on illegal immagrants in Colorado. Most working for Gould construction. They are making up-wards of .00 an hour. Bring home like 0.00 a week. I bring home like 5.00 a week. They say no americans want these jobs on one hand. Yet we hear daily about poverty in america. So my question is why can’t all these welfare people who are able to work not forced in to work these jobs. Law braking immagriants and welfare porple have it made in this country. The sad part is the people who really need the help can’t get it because of the color of their skin. When will the true real American be taken care of in this country.
