how can i get my parents to come home? why do they leave me by myself all the time?
My dad has been working out of town a lot for his job because they got some projects around the state.(hes the co-owner of a house construction business). He would leave during the week and stay in whatever town the job was in, and come home to see me and my step mom on the weekends. and every two weeks or so he would stay home for the week and work on in town projects. now my dad stopped coming home on the weekends and my step mom is just going to the towns my dad is in on the weekends. and now shes just staying with him up there all the time and they never come home. i havent seen my dad in about 3 weeks and i get the vibe that they dont want me to come see them. im 15 years old, female, and i basically live by myself in this big house. they dont answer the phone when i call, and i really miss my dad and step mom. and if they do come home on the weekends, they go camping and wont let me go with. my step mom has been my step mom for about 4 years now, and i really like her. she and my dad are more like my friends than my parents. so why are they doing this to me? do you find it weird?
hes been getting out of town jobs for about 2-3 months now
and i can pretty much take care of myself, i can drive and they gave me a credit card so i can buy food and whatever
I am employed full time and paid a salary. Can my boss have me work more than 40 hrs/wk without overtime pay?
I have been working for this one commercial construction company now since 1994. I have always worked a minimum of 40 hrs a week but on an average, I would work more than 45 hrs per week without being paid any overtime, and I had no qualms with that. Over the past few months though, I have been working up to 15 hrs per day 4 days a week = 60 hrs. And this work is out-of-town and away from my family. Even on my days off, I will sometimes be told to "come in" and help other employees with their projects even though they (other employees) only work a 40 hr week. I have been informed by the owner on a regular basis that "times are tough" and "we all have to make sacrifices" when he flies to the Bahama’s and cruises around on his 70 ft yacht every other week and we (the employees) have rarely been given more than 1 week vacation during any given summer…..It just doesn’t seem right. We employees have been a substantial part of the owner being able to have the luxuries that he has, and for him to have me work more than 20 hrs of overtime every week and not expect to compensate me for it…seems ridiculous and unfair and possibly illegal. Or, maybe this is just the way it is and I should shut-up and be thankful I have a job. What do you think?

What Can I Do? I Have completed most of the work.?
I have a construction company. I am fully licensed & fully insured.
The problem I have is with 1of my clients. I am renovating a big apartment. The contract is signed.
Fist of all, the contract states the ways of payments are the following: When contract is signed I receive the first paycheck, when the job starts(these 2 have been received), the job reaches 50% of completion, reaches 75% of completion,& when the job is done the last payment.
In this job there is some electrical work, which is also stated in the contract. Once I started the project I discovered that the people that had worked there before us, did lots of things wrong. Hot wires where found hidden in drywalls & uncovered, the panel was a disaster(in contract I am to renovate) & more.
We at this moment are about to reach 75% of completion, but now the owner says he wants us to file the electrical & plumbing work w/the city, & wants the license # of my electrician. Until then he will not pay anything. What can I do?
By The Way, I have tried to contact them and they do not answer their phones, emails, neither do they reply to the voicemails.
Why are they interviewing me again?
I am a Construction Estimator, specializing in residential.
I do have some warehouse / Industrial experience.
this great Co. interviewed me about a year ago, It was weird, the owner just listened the PM asked me a couple Questions, But 95% the daughter went down a list of questions, all saying on a 1 to 10 scale. what do you know about …..and you give say 9, 7 or 8 or 5. she writes it all down. Interview over. they do Commercial, Institutional, governmental, all things I had little or some experience with. Mostly as a carpenter.
I can only think of 2 reasons they called. 1 they saw I was smart and are willing to start entry / apprentice. or 2 they totally forgot they interviewed me the 1st time. It has happened before.
my resume shows 1 job I had that is close to one they built in the past, that is it!! maybe they think that is enough to start from I hope, I really want to get into that aspect of estimating big projects, to learn and grow.
Why do you think they called me?
Is it OK for a small business owner (contractor) to require money up front from customers?
I own a small landscape design and installation company. We do unique, detail-oriented design and our construction quality is unsurpassed. We normally ask for half of the money at the beginning of the project, to cover materials etc, and sometimes small payments in addition, along the way if need be. Today a client told me that ‘no other companies’ need to get paid until the job is finished, and that the money he already paid me was highly unusual. Our contract with him allows for money up front. He raised no objections until today, when I asked him for a small installment to pay for some materials. I wonder, is it really that unusual for a construction company not to finance a landscaping/retaining wall project?
Can anyone in or around Newport News VA tell me how the job outlook is there?
Im considering a major move, from Detroit to Newport News Va but I would like to know how the job market is there. As Im sure everyone knows by now, jobs in Michigan are super hard to find, companies are collapsing like Dominos and I just dont see a real future here.
I have a friend who owns a construction company in VA and Ive been seriously considering a move down there. I would be working in the dental field but I would like to have an overall view of newport. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated, even if its not job related. Have you visited newport? Tell me what you thought…

What curriculum teaches students to estimate construction projects and what schools teach it?
I know the owner of an electrical contracting company that is located in south central Pennsylvania. The company is looking to hire a construction estimator. In the past, they’ve promoted people from the field into this position but they’re not getting the level of expertise that they desire. I suggested that they may want to hire someone with technical school training or an associates or bachelors degree.
The position requires someone with good communication skills. Writing and communicating with general contractors (GCs) is required. It also requires a person with good analytical skills. The estimator is reponsible for bidding projects. If the company is awarded the project, the estimator needs to track estmated vs actual costs to determine profitability. If the company is not awarded the project, the estimator needs to determine if adjustments need to be made in future estimates.
Currently their estimators bid jobs but if they don’t get the job, there is no post-bid analysis. It’s a guessing game. To improve the number of successful bids, the company needs estimators that know how to analyze competitors bids and refine the company’s bidding and estimating practices.
What schools might offer such a program? What course of study would prepare a person for such a position?
I reviewed the Pittsburg State website and it does appear that they specialize in construction. I’m curios about their estimating curriculum. I emailed them but did not receive an answer.
Are there other higher education institutions that teach similar programs?
