Why isn't illegal immigration an issue in the News media right now?
Since there are over 1,500,000 per year added to our country, where do you suppose they are going to work?
Oh, the construction industry, I thought this was one of the area’s the Stimulus would work on. But aren’t those jobs that Americans don’t want to do?
Where is the Media?
Are Republicans sick to their stomachs over the improving economy?
Obama’s been in office for about 17 months now. You’ll recall that the stock market was crashing at that time. It bottomed out at something like 6600 and now it’s up over 10,000 again which makes for an over 50% increase in less than a year and a half.
The auto industry was in shambles when Obama took over too. The bail outs and the bankruptcies were very controversial at the time, but now we see that Chrysler and GM are clearly making a comeback. GM even expects to sell stock soon. Ford stock is up about 700% in that same time period.
The housing industry was in utter collapse when Obama took office. Even the hardest his areas economically are now seeing clear signs of a quickly recovering construction industry.
When Obama took office the banking industry was right on the brink of collapse. Soon they’ll pay off their loans with interest creating a tidy profit for the American taxpayers.
Leading economic indicators have been trending upwards for well over a year now.
With all of this good news demonstrating that the American economy is making a splendid comeback, are the Republicans sick to their stomachs over the wealth of evidence showing that they have no idea how to run a country and that Democrats can fix the economy no matter how badly the Republicans work to destroy it?
Uncle Pennybags, please educate yourself! A large percentage of the stimulus money was in the form of income tax cuts. Not just tax cuts for George Bush’s rich friends but tax cuts for everybody.
Is it possible to find a job in construction industry in dubai now ? as financial crisis is still goin on…?

Is Oklahoma OK ?
Check out this story and the comments from readers …

I know the story is from May 07, it’s right before HB1804 took effect. SINCE then, Oklahoma (MY HOME) has become a MUCH BETTER place to live. EVERYWHERE are "help wanted" signs, small businesses are fine, except maybe the construction industry which is at a halt everywhere, not just in OK. You can’t landscape a flowerbed or pick garden veggies when it’s the middle of winter anyway. SO, my actual question is……If Oklahoma survives the pro-illegals appeals to the state government to repeal 1804, will this set a landmark trend for other states to follow? Could upholding HB1804 in the current Oklahoma legislative session set precedent and allow the states to eliminate illegals on a local level all across the nation? Please read HB1804 and tell me what you like or don’t like about it. http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08bills/HB/HB1804_ENR.RTF
Enrique, you are right that construction falling discourages new business, but I live in Edmond, which is the wealthiest community in OKC metro. A small 1 bed apt rents for 600.00 a month. Edmond is not a true reflection of growth and/or decline due to HB1804. I do however see MANY business closings and rent decreases in small 2 & 3 bed homes down to as low as 250.00 a month on OKC’s south side which has a predominantly hispanic population. OKC has long needed to "clean up" the south side, and remainaing residents are glad the crime has decreased, but sad to see some of the business closings. I think the short term effect on small business will be outweighed long term by the reduction of welfare spending and the improvements to once "illegal majority" neighborhoods and schools. Once the illegal element is removed, it opens doors for low income legal citizens to improve their community.
Christina, WHO HIRED YOU? In HR you must be fluent and educated on employment laws and company policies…you type in incomplete sentences…I am a partner in my firm, and NEVER place an ad for help, people with college degrees apply to work at my firm, then I, along with the other 3 partners review each application. We ONLY hire CPA certified accountants, and we have a staff of 17 with zero workers com or unemployment claims in 30 years of existance. I’d say we must be doing a pretty good job in selecting employees.
Oklahoma’s HB 1804 is not applied strictly to "farms". It applies across the board to all jobs. Did you read it? All of it?
Stephanie, I am NOT an immigrant, I was born here in Oklahoma, and no one in my family was an ILLEGAL immigrant…seems yours is the same.
Oklahoma’s HB1804 does not persecute LEGAL immigrants, or anyone with proof of legal visa or work permit. It is the illegal criminal we want removed from our state and our nation.
Why does slump in real estate market causes lower consumer spending?
This is a statement I heard very often in the news nowadays. For most people who are not subprime mortgage borrowers, lower house price means one has to save less to buy a house in the future. Isn’t that a better situation? Why should they spend less? Probably this crisis will affect many construction workers. But how many people are working in construction industry.
Why does Yahoo news lie?
I came across two contradictory news articles "Greenspan Predicts Recession" "Economic analysts say there will be no recession"
just now: "personal incomes on the rise" while the story mentions only the bonuses of top executives goes up while the construction industry is flailing
it sounds as though they are trying to paint the best imaginable picture of a select few of the facts they string together –
does anyone else see what a joke Yahoo news is? as though they are just trying desperately to paint a good picture for Bush
Is there anyone who knows much about Quantity Surveyor profession? or other related careers?
Currently, most of the QS profession are implemented in construction industry. But, there is a trend that the QS may diversify their careers into other sector, eg. oil and gas services, heavy industry… I would like to ask for some opinions regarding the involvement of Quantity Surveyor in oild and gas services (petroleum industry). Is there available information or journals or articles that may provide me the information of this topic?
Thanks you!
How do you know we have an illegals problem, based on your experience where you live?
I am curious to hear about trends that you have observed in the area where you live whether its in the school systems, construction industry, restaurant industry, crime….whatever it is that you have personally observed and experienced.
Venture Capital?
I run a consulting firm specializing in helping large US and International contractors and construction owners in the construction industry in the areas of pre-construction and project management. The business is generating income but I want to expand the model and develop a utility management tool (software) that reflects my business philosophy and approach. In order to do this I need financing, but I don’t want to take a loan, I prefer equity based financing. Any ideas where to start and how to approach this?
