The AP reports that there was a slightly upward swing in July for construction in new homes, but despite this move applications, for building permits were actually at its lowest point in 14 months. The AP further reports that “the Commerce Department indicated that construction of new homes and apartments rose 1.7 percent in July, but applications for building permits, considered a good sign of future activity, fell 3.1 percent.”

Economic progress in this city of the future is unprecedented. It is the Middle East that is not familiar to most Americans. The real change in the Middle East is not from the Iraq invasion, it is from construction and business and entertainment. The speed of development in the region is mind boggling to most people. New Building Code May Be Blueprint for Green Construction
The International Code Council, an association that develops codes to ensure building safety, has come up with a new code to guide builders through constructing green or environmentally-friendly buildings. The group brought together architects, heating and air conditioning specialists and other construction experts to make new commercial construction more sustainable. VOA’s Laurel Bowman has more.
