On Sainsbury's peanuts:"Warning: contains nuts."(talk about a news flash) and more stupid public mistakes!!!

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 at 5:06 pm

On a Sear’s hairdryer:
….Do not use while sleeping.
(darn, and that’s the only time I have to work on my hair.)
On a bag of Fritos:
….You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside.
(the shoplifter special?)
On a bar of Dial soap:
"Directions: Use like regular soap."
(and that would be how???….)
On some Swanson frozen dinners:
"Serving suggestion: Defrost."
(but, it’s "just" a suggestion.)
Tesco’s Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom):
"Do not turn upside down."
(well…duh, a bit late, huh?)
On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding:
"Product will be hot after heating."
(…and you thought????…)
On packaging for a Rowenta iron:
"Do not iron clothes on body."
(but wouldn’t this save me more time?)
On Boot’s Children Cough Medicine:
"Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication."
(We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.)

How do I deal with the construction noise that has been going on at my neighbor's apartment across the hall?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 at 9:28 am

I live in a high-rise condo building in NYC, we are owners of our unit, and the unit right across the hall from me has been undergoing gut renovation since June or July(!!!) of last year. It’s been a nuisance with dirt, dust, noise. However, the only thing that really bothers me is the NOISE. Because we are right across the hall, any construction they do feels like it is in our own unit, causing a ton of noise and vibration that makes it impossible to think or do anything while I’m at home. Now, I know that everyone’s entitled to do construction and noise is a part of it, so I can’t really complain just b/c of noise so long as the contractors follow the time restrictions, which are weekday 9-5 only. The thing though is that this gut renovation has been taking unusually long and I just don’t think it’s right to expect people to put up with their neighbor’s construction noise and everything else for unusually long periods of time. I am a friendly person and have chatted with the designer of the gut reno and some subcontractors and they told me that this is a monster of a renovation & that it should’ve been finished last fall(!) but, not unusually, delays happen, but now, instead of being, say, a 4 month project, it is in the 8th month. The designer let me peek in to the unit a couple weeks ago, she said they were just putting the finishing touches and the family were supposed to move in NEXT WEEK. Well, it’s been two weeks since then and today there is a TON of NOISE once again!

I’m not looking for "legal" solutions, frankly, I don’t think I have any. I believe the construction IS coming to a close, but until it is all over, I would like, at a minimum, for someone to give me one day’s notice of heavy noise so I can plan to flee the apartment with my dog (who is miserable, flinches and hides under the blanket when the noise starts, btw) instead of being comfortably home working when whatever I do comes to a sudden end because I can’t concentrate b/c of the noise. Last summer, I asked the building manager to ask the contractors to give us this one day’s notice and they did so ONCE out of the days and days (literally at least 30 days of really bad, apartment-shaking noise, not to mention the many days of annoying, but not as bad noise).

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get what I want – i.e., better communication from contractors as to impending noise – or otherwise deal with it so that my dog & I don’t go crazy?

Why are we not hearing about the serial killer in New Mexico?

Monday, January 24th, 2011 at 7:24 am

I’m on charleyproject.org & there were 10 skeletons found at a construction site in West Mesa, including one of a pregnant woman & her fetus. Why aren’t we hearing about this on the news? They apparently just found these remains in 2009.

What are the two ways for CleanerWater to recover and which one is the best?

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010 at 7:06 pm

1. 1Contractor was a general contractor and owner of a condominium complex that was under construction. CleanerWater Plumbing Company, a subcontractor, had been hired by Zoomba Plumbing, another subcontractor, to help it complete the plumbing work on the project.

When Zoomba began using shoddy installation procedures and fell behind the scheduled completion time for the project, 1Contractor’s urged CleanerWater to correct Zoomba’s mistakes and to finish the job. CleanerWaterr refused to continue until he knew who would pay him, since he feared Zoomba’s financial position was shaky. Nonetheless, 1Contractor’s job superintendent told CleanerWater to go ahead even if CleanerWater Plumbing and 1Contractor’s had no contract because “he would use his influence to try to CleanerWater get his money.”

CleanerWater finished the work and sent a ,800 bill to Zoomba. The bill was never paid. When CleanerWater later sent the bill to 1Contractor’s, these facts emerged:1Contractor’s told him that due to CleanerWater’s failure to notify 1Contractor’s promptly of Zoomba’s non-payment,1Contractor’s had already paid Zoomba in full and therefore would not pay twice for the work. Law & ethics.

How does a person go about getting a gov. job when they have an MBA/Construction Management degree in the…?

Saturday, October 30th, 2010 at 12:15 pm

market we have now?….I am asking this for someone else. This person was transferred to the west coast for a job & had moved around but might want to come back to the MD/D.C. area…he is kind of negative listening to the news & people who have limited ways of looking at things….He now has his Master’s & other things that go along but I want to be of some support & don’t know anything about all of this….Is there a site to look for jobs he can do?…what is the best thing he can get now with the education he has?….any help or clarity about this issue is appreciated….I think there must be a new influx of job opening in this area cause I keep hearing about construction improving but how can we find out where to apply & what the best move to make would be with the new degree?

I read about the costruction of a lab to detect Dark Matter below 80000feet of surface of Earth in South Afric?

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 at 2:40 am

a. The news pinpoints that the mentioned depth makes it impossible for cosmic rays to reach.

Just what concept involves behind construction of such lab at such depth & how particularly it helps in detecting the presence of Dark Matter?

What Can I Do? I Have completed most of the work.?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 at 4:42 am

I have a construction company. I am fully licensed & fully insured.
The problem I have is with 1of my clients. I am renovating a big apartment. The contract is signed.

Fist of all, the contract states the ways of payments are the following: When contract is signed I receive the first paycheck, when the job starts(these 2 have been received), the job reaches 50% of completion, reaches 75% of completion,& when the job is done the last payment.

In this job there is some electrical work, which is also stated in the contract. Once I started the project I discovered that the people that had worked there before us, did lots of things wrong. Hot wires where found hidden in drywalls & uncovered, the panel was a disaster(in contract I am to renovate) & more.
We at this moment are about to reach 75% of completion, but now the owner says he wants us to file the electrical & plumbing work w/the city, & wants the license # of my electrician. Until then he will not pay anything. What can I do?
By The Way, I have tried to contact them and they do not answer their phones, emails, neither do they reply to the voicemails.
